في اللغة الإنجليزية ، العديد من الأدوات كالمقص والزرادية إلخ والنظارة وأيضا بعض الملابس كالبنطلون تعتبر جمعا وليست مفردا فمثلا البنطلون الواحد يعتبر "جمع" لأن له جهتين، لكل رجل جهة وهذه من الأشياء الغريبة في اللغة الإنجليزية . فإذا أردت ان تقول بنطلوني صغير تقول : My trousers are small

وليس My trousers is small وكذلك الأمر مع المقص والنظارة ومعظم الأشياء التي تتكون من قطعتين متصلتين. لغة عجيبة !!
